Gardening where the sidewalk ends

We’re heading up to Whidbey Island for a few days of R & R, and I didn’t want to end on a slightly panicky, lead-in-dirt-related note. So here’s a shot of a neighbor’s magnolia tree. It seems to bloom once very heavily in the spring and again more lightly in August, and my daughter and I both enjoy picking up the dropped petals and doing that crack-and-peel thing with their bases that is just so strangely satisfying. I’m sorry not to know the name of the tree variety, but it’s truly lovely.

Happy late-summer gardening!

Hope you guys had a nice trip. Let’s get together soon so you can give me your fabric.

Hope you have a good time. I have always lived in eastern U.S., but years ago we spent one night on the island during a quick trip to the northwest for a meeting. It surely is a pretty area.

Hi Kim & Barbee – Whidbey was great, although it seems like a long time ago now… 🙂
