I am late in getting this out, but wanted to publicize a great event that supports the Miller Library at the Center for Urban Horticulture here in Seattle, where I volunteer weekly. The library is an amazing and not-well-enough-known resource for area horticulturalists from beginner to professional, and the annual book sale coming up this weekend is one of its biggest fundraisers.

Helping sort through a few of the books, I found many treasures and had to stop myself from making a giant pile or wish list. There are classics like “The Complete Shade Gardener” by George Schenk and Sunset’s Western Garden book, as well as some decomissioned library copies that are rare and wonderful. To have a chance at the most special books, you might have to attend the pre-sale party Friday night!

This sounds great! Since it’s not gardening weather this weekend, book shopping sounds like fun!

I do love a book sale. My calendar is marked for the big book sale in middle Georgia late in the month.

Karen~~ My fingers are crossed for a good turnout. Thanks to the weather, we northwesters probably won’t be doing much gardening anyway. 🙂

My garden book collection is just getting started. I’ve discovered that I have a weakness for the detailed kind of botanical sketches in that last photo. A girl could go mad….
    enjoy the sale!

Any chance there will be remnants still for sale Monday or Tuesday? My mum is in town then. What day do you volunteer?

Phew, I’m glad I missed it. I’m a sucker for those taschen books. I can’t believe how expensive old garden books can be, I found an old black and white paperback of mexican roadside plants at powells the other week, it was $95! And I wanted it. But I refrained. Book sales are dangerous.

How exciting — I love garden books!
